Dave Johnson is a shareholder at Perkins Thompson, where he serves as Chair of the Real Estate and Banking & Financial Services Practice Groups and President of Maine Attorneys Title Company, LLC, the firm’s in-house title agency. His practice focuses on commercial finance, real estate transactions, and corporate law, with particular emphasis on representing lenders, developers, businesses, and real estate investors in complex, high-value transactions.

Dave advises both financial institutions and borrowers across a wide range of commercial lending matters, including construction loans, asset-based lending (ABL) facilities, mezzanine financing, bridge loans, and real estate acquisition financing. As President of the firm’s title company and with nearly 20 years of experience in abstracting real estate title, Dave offers integrated and comprehensive support for transactions involving commercial, industrial, timberland, and renewable energy projects.

In addition to his finance and real estate work, Dave serves as external general counsel to a diverse group of businesses, providing strategic guidance on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, and complex commercial contracts.

Dave has been engaged in the legal profession since 2007, beginning his career as an enlisted paralegal in the United States Air Force. Following active duty, he joined a regional commercial law firm in 2011 and later practiced at several Maine-based firms before joining Perkins Thompson in 2019. He continues to serve part-time as a Judge Advocate in the Maine Air National Guard.

  • $17.5 Million Mezzanine Loan – Represented a mezzanine lender in the acquisition financing of a Class A office building, including intercreditor negotiations and drafting of complex security agreements.
  • Term Loan for Healthcare Facilities – Served as lender’s counsel in the financing of multiple healthcare facility acquisitions and renovations, addressing title, environmental, and regulatory matters.
  • Timberland Acquisition and Title Work – Represented a buyer in the acquisition of more than 250,000 acres of timberland, overseeing title due diligence, title insurance, and financing coordination.
  • Wind Energy Project Development – Represented the developer in a multi-phase wind energy project, advising on land acquisition, easements, title clearance, and large-scale survey coordination across thousands of acres.

A Maine native, Dave now lives in Saco with his wife and four daughters. Outside the office, he enjoys fishing, biking, skiing, and generally making the most of the Maine outdoors in ways his profession does not always permit.
